Analogies of the 1700's and Now.2

The hurling of political slurs towards the birthing of American independence in the 1770's was just as raw and uncalculated toward one another as they are today. Though America was born 234 years ago, there is again a loud cry of rebirthing in our country, a call back to the fundamental principles of Adam's day, and of our Founding Fathers. One of Adam's long time friend, Sewall, a Loyalist "quit America", turned to England and left for good leaving only caustic remarks in his wake..."That Great Britian will rise superior to all the gasconade of the little, wicked American politicians." (p71) I think of this as I listen to the nightly news where Americans, well within their rights under the 1st Amendment, freedom to assemble, are being called unAmerican, racists, people likened to the Oklahoma bomber as they stand in protest to the intolerable acts of Congress.
Its interesting how people of all walks of life gathered then as they are now, in taverns, restaurants, coffee houses, markets, parks and fields, around kitchen tables, and clustered on porches concerned and dismayed at the government. Burdens of taxes and more taxes, conversations about Reconciliation, peoples voices NOT being heard, division amongst family members at the passing of heinous Bills and Proclamations that don't represent the voice or rights of the people.
Where is the "Common Sense" of decency, integrity, and morals?...of upholding the Constitution? Thomas Paine's famous phamplet is again circulating with the same alarming awakening ring...Awake America, its time to rise to the occasion of defending our unalienable rights and liberties!

I am amazed and stunned at the striking similarities between the Patriots vision of our young country in the 1700's and the awaking Patriots of today. We gather together, speechless and agast as the Constitution of our great country faces challenges that no one thought possible. Is it possible that a few can dictate to the many? Is it true that a few can "rewrite" the very Constitution that formed their freedoms and liberties to tear it apart? I ask myself as did Abigail Adams (p 21) do we "have too many high sounding words, and too few actions that correspond with them?"
While i type this blog i am waiting to hear of the Senate vote for the Health Care Plan. A Plan that is being forced down the throats of all of us against our voice. I watched the protestors gathered at the Capitol this afternoon on T.V., i heard on the news Saturday, March 20th of people in Alaska calling meetings to gather up their arms in preparation of standing in defence of their freedoms, i hear of Tea Parties and at the end of the month i'm going to one to make a stand for the country that i so love, there is talk of a Sugar Tax on soft drinks ..... What is happening in and to our country? Are we again going to have a revolution to safeguard our rights?
Abigail writes to her Dearest Friend from the kitchen table (p 21), "You cannot be, I know, nor do I wish to see you, an inactive spectator." We also must not now be inactive spectators, we must rise to the occassion, preserve our freedoms and liberties, and ensure that they will be passed on to the next generation.
